Owensville Primary Care (OPC) located in southern Anne Arundel County has been serving our community for over 42 years. Our health center’s roots go back to the late 1960’s when a community effort to bring vital health care services to the rural area of Anne Arundel County was started by the Community Action Agency. Over the years we have evolved with name changes, renovations, expanded hours and services and I have been fortunate to be a part of OPC’s history long before becoming the Chief Executive Officer for the past 20 years.
In addition to serving our community, OPC is one of eight Federally Qualified Community Health Center’s (FQHC) that make up the Priority Partners Managed Care Organization partnering with Johns Hopkins Health Systems and working closely with the State of Maryland Medical Assistance Program, allowing us the opportunity to be on the frontline of the ever-changing transformations of health care.
We have had a busy and productive past few years, our accomplishments continue to strengthen our organization. We now provide Behavioral Health and Care Management services in our health center. Our Behavioral Health Unit continues to expand with two Providers and the renovations to our building that will provide Behavioral Health with its own designated entrance, lobby and offices. Our Care Management team will be equipped with three Certified Application Counselors by the end of 2016 that will provide on-site assistance to the community with enrollment eligibility for the Affordable Care Act Insurance Marketplace and the State of Maryland Medical Assistance Expansion Program.
In 2015 we received our accreditation by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) as a Patient Centered Medical Home. This designation has sharply defined our direction in providing an environment that brings you, your family, and your healthcare team together and working towards the best choices about your health. We also have established a broad and talented medical team with Internal Medicine and Family Medicine Physicians, two Mental Health Therapists, a Nurse Practitioner and a Physician’s Assistant. We are able to receive New Patients and continue to provide comprehensive primary health care and Behavioral Health services to the community we have been serving for years.
I urge each of you to share in our success. Please take the opportunity to stop by and see how we can be of service for all of your health needs.
